BIMA ORGANISES CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS INITIATIVE ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
On the International Women’s Day (8 March), BIMA Senegal joined forces with Ngor's town hall and its health centre as well as Marie Stopes International to organise a cervical cancer awareness day where women received free screening tests for cervical cancer and sexually transmitted diseases.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness on cervical cancer and provide visitors with family planning advice. The free screening was open to the public, as well as employees from BIMA and its partners Tigo and SUNU Assurances. More than 200 women received free screening and health consultation on the day.
The awareness campaign had been developed and organised by BIMA’s female employees, who are also active participants of the company’s global female leadership and mentoring programme – RUN. With female employees representing more than half of its workforce, BIMA advocates gender equality in the workplace and nurtures a working environment in which women are respected, supported and developed. To that end, it launched the internal programme RUN in 2016 to facilitate career progression of its female talent around the globe and to encourage them to take initiatives in their personal and professional development.
On the International Women’s Day where women’s achievements are celebrated across the world, BIMA’s cervical health initiative not only gives back to women in the community, it also highlights the company’s mission to protect individuals and families against both financial and health risks.
