BIMA has claimed another flagship industry award, taking home the title of 'Best Mature Stage Start Up' in the global Fintech Finals 2017. The award, created by Next Money and sponsored by Visa, saw 1000s of startups from around the world compete in regional heats, with the Top 24 proceeding onto Hong Kong to battle it out in the final round. Winners were judged on the strength of their business model, scale, disruptive potential or impact, customer experience and growth opportunity.

The award recognizes recognizes a single company that is truly pushing the boundaries of innovation and inclusion. BIMA was selected winner for its client centric approach, which has resulted in delivering impact on an unrivalled scale, reaching over 20 million customers across Africa, Asia and Latin America in just five years. The prize money of $150, 000 will be invested in further developing BIMA’s customer insight capabilities, positioning BIMA as the industry leader in client centricity.

The award recognizes BIMA’s success in the region, where it has used disruptive mobile technology to bring insurance to over 9 million people, up to 95% of who have previously been excluded from financial services. BIMA’s unique model demonstrates that it is possible to drive adoption of affordable microinsurance at scale.

BIMA, together with  partner Robi Axiata, was awarded the Best Emerging Market Initiative for its BIMA Life Insurance, product in Bangladesh. BIMA Life Insurance was recognised for its innovation as well as its impact on the underserved segment.

BIMA  took home the Award for Excellence in Transformational Business, what the FT/IFC called the ‘Winner of the Winners’ award.beating over 237 entries from 214 institutions around the globe. 

The FT/IFC Transformational Business Awards, an expansion of the FT/IFC Sustainable Finance Awards, highlighted innovative, commercially viable, and replicable products and services that can create long-term, transformative solutions to development needs in areas such as infrastructure, energy, food and water, affordable housing and health. The awards also recognised the use of technology to empower the poor, initiatives to reverse environmental and social degradation, and efforts to promote gender diversity
